Complete Catalog of ELA Escape Room Resources

I felt like I found the Holy Grail for teachers when I used an escape room in my class for the first time.

After all, doesn’t every teacher want instant classroom engagement, just by taking advantage of an innate characteristic of every middle school student?

Curiosity!

After I wrote about the kids’ amazing feedback on their breakout experiences, I started getting about a gazillion questions about a list of escape rooms and skills (okay, 😉 maybe not quite a gazillion). So I decided that the best place for that would be right here.

Every single one requires close readingteam-building, and critical thinking. Every single one is also interactive and immersive. And each one includes a focus skill (in bold), as well as other skills to practice.

Additionally, each escape activity includes congratulatory awards, exit slips, and a useful takeaway with notes about the focus skill.

Take a look. And don’t hesitate to ask questions. I’m shooting for a gazillion. 😂

Teaching with escape rooms is a classroom game-changer! Kids are so engaged that they don't even realize they're learning! Escape rooms have helped my students' close reading, critical thinking, and team building skills. The breakout can introduce a unit of study, or it can review a teaching unit. Some teachers even use them as class rewards! #escaperoom #breakout #middleschool #reading #English #rewards #school #classparty #learninggames
