Out of the Box Poetry Quickwrites

Are you trying to encourage your students to move out of their poetry comfort zones and into the “creative” zone? If so, try this method, and avoid the “I love my puppy as much as my guppy” phenomenon!

The concept involves assigning your students carefully chosen- but seemingly random- words that they have to use in a poem. Give them several minutes to write, and then enjoy seeing the sparks fly!
